Fuck it; Lets go Camping!

When Jane and I were hanging out on Monday, we had a moment when we were wishing we were away from the IE.  Somewhere awesome.  Somewhere far away.  A place were we can just hang out and enjoy the world.  We realized that we could have possibly done a camping trip that day.  We kept thinking about it, and I began thinking of whats were I could go camping this week.  We realized we could go for a overnight trip on Wednesday night.  Where should be go?  We wanted to get far away from the IE.  We questioned going on the trip due to money, but we in the end said fuck it!  This became a fuck it, lets go kind of trip.  We did not care how short it would be.  Anything was better than nothing.  I figured the beach would be the perfect place.  I used my phone and we found campsites open, but only in campgrounds up on the central coast.  The closest beach that had openings, and did not cost us an arm and a leg was Pismo State Beach, in San Luis Obispo County.  We again questioned going, but we kept to the theme of fuck it, lets go.  I made the reservations, and it was official that we were going camping on Wednesday, March 26.  We had a realization that Scotty would most likely have that Thursday off, which would mean he would be able to come with us on the camping trip.  Lately, it has either been Jane and I or Scotty and I hanging.  The three best friends have not had any epic adventures or hang out time in general in the past year.  Mainly from all three of our schedules.  We contacted Scotty, and it seems that he most likely had to go in to work on Thursday.  We pushed and we pushed, and he was able to tell his work that he could not work.  That was it.  We had a last minute fuck it, lets go to Pismo for a turnaround camping trip.

Wednesday came.  I packed the car.  Jane got off work and headed on over.  We finished packing.  All we had to do is wait for Scotty to get off work.  Normally, he can be off work and home around 5:00 pm.  We would be able to leave at the latest of 6.  We did not want to leave any later since it was a 4 hour drive to Pismo.  Of course, things never go the way you plan.  Scotty was kept way late by his work.  We figure it was retaliation from his telling him he could not work the following day.  We waited.  We waited some more.  Finally, he got off work.  We were able to get on the road just a little bit after 8:00.  Way later than we expected, but who cares.  We were hanging out and we were getting away!  Majority of the drive was fun.  It felt just like the good old day of us spending hours driving around joking around and listening to music.  The last hour of the drive drove us crazy.  We just wanted to be their already.  Finally, we arrived at the Oceano Campground at Pismo.  It was midnight.  We found the campground, opened up some beers, and put up the tent.  It was extremely quiet.  Everyone was asleep.  Everything was dead.  We figured it would be a bad thing to sit around the campsite and drink.  We would get loud and probably wake others up.  We grabbed a beer and we went for a walk.  The destination...the beach.  We got to the beach, and began to just walk north towards some city lights.  We drank our beers and just had good fun.  We realized one flaw to our plans.  We should of each brought a second beer.  We were finished with ours only a few minutes after getting to the beach.  We got thirsty while walking over.  We were on the beach for about 45 minutes before a few clouds began to come in, and begin to drizzle over us.  For the past 24 hours, we have had scattered showers, and we were near the end of that weather pattern.  We turned around, and headed back towards where we entered the beach.  It stopped.  We decided to just keep walking south instead.  After awhile, more drizzle began to fall.  A car showed up on the beach ahead of us.  We feared it was a patrol or something.  Even though it was heading away from us, we felt it a good idea if we turned back around, and head back to the campsite.  We needed beer anyway.  We got back to the tent, pulled the ice chests into the tent, opened some beers, and chilled in the tent for the rest of the night.  We ended up getting tired and passing out around 3:oo am.

I was first to wake.  Usual when having overnights with J and S.  The bright sun light, the heat accumulating in the tent, and the sound of ducks right outside of the tent woke me up.  I tried to stay in the tent, but I hate being warm.  I got out of the tent.  It was beautiful!  The tent faced the back of the campsite.  A lagoon was behind the campsite, which explained the ducks.  The sun was warm, but not uncomfortable.  You can hear the ocean waves crashing from a distance.  Had a scent of salt in the air.  It was a nice and relaxing way to enjoy the morning compared to the usual.  Jane shortly emerged, and we worked to get the fire going.  I boiled water to brew coffee, then began cooking breakfast.  I started with the bacon.  OMG the fuckin bacon was amazing!  Slow cooked bacon over a campfire is the best.  After the bacon came the maple sausage, then we ended with eggs.  While the cooking was going on, we explored the lagoon, enjoyed the coffee (except for Scotty...doesn't drink coffee), and slowly packed our things.  We had no plans of what to do.  Jane and I were just hoping to just drive and stop at places to explore and live life.  We had everything packed by noon and were on our way to whatever.  We would of stayed and returned to the beach; but check out was at noon.

Scotty had expressed that he had things that he did want to do at home today, so he didn't want to get home too late.   We figured we still had time to do something.  We drove north on the PCH.  First thing we was was a Monarch Butterfly Grove.  Had no clue if the monarchs were there, but we pulled off to check it out.  It seems we had missed the butterflies by a few weeks.  Oh well.  We walked around anyway.  We kept driving north.  We ran into a park called Dinosaur Caves Park.  Of course we had to stop.  The park was awesome.  It was a historic location for large wooden dinosaurs that once was built on the land.  It was changed to a park by the city years after the dinosaurs burned down.  The view was amazing.  There were sea caves you can view from the top of the cliffs of the park.  We had hoped there was a way we could get down to the beach to go explore the caves.  Sadly, no path was presented to us.  A off shore wind was blowing.  Didn't make the exploring as enjoyable as it could have been, but it still was fun.  The houses began grabbing our attention that were by the park.  Scotty pulled up Zillow on his phone to check out what these houses cost.  We got in the car and began driving around the neighborhood.  We pointed out houses we all loved and compared them on zillow.  Most of the prices of those homes were in the high 100,000's to low millions.  The most expensive was a 2.5 million dollar home.  Each one of us picked a house, and we dreamed that the three of us lived in that house.  It would be amazing.  The three best friends living together and in one beautiful location living life to the fullest.  If only life was perfect that way.  Why does society make life so complicated?  It sucks!  They say you should do what you want.  You only live once.  Reality is that it just doesn't work that way.  REALITY SUCKS BALLS!  After driving around the neighborhood, we kept going north.  We soon found ourselves in Avila Beach.  I really wanted to get out, go on the beach, and just have some fun.  Jane didn't like the idea due to the cold offshore wind, and Scotty kept giving hints that he wanted to get home soon.  A bummer.  I noticed that we could have taken a tour of a lighthouse near by.  I so wanted to.  Sadly, if we were to get Scotty home, we had no more time.  We turned around and began on the 4 + hour drive home.  We did not want to go back.  We had wished for more time.  It has been very rare for us to do things like this anymore.  We would of been happy with just one more night.  Even though this was a super short trip, we still enjoyed it.  Who knows when we would get to do something like this again.  Probably not until the summer.  If we are lucky, we can do something like this in the summer, but longer.

We took a longer route to drive home.  Why not?  We drove down the PCH instead of the 101 for awhile.  Then we took the 135 to meet up with the 101 in Los Alamos.  The 101 was short lived, by taking a scenic route of the 154 through Chumash Valley.  By time we got to Santa Barbara, we were getting hungry.  Using our phones, we looked up ideas for places to eat.  We were not successful for Santa Barbara.  Ventura would be our next option.  We felt like burgers.  We had learned that Jane had never been to a Fat Burger.  There was one in Ventura.  Of course, we went there.  It had been years since I had a fat burger.  To surprise, I ordered the smallest out of the three of us.  To no surprise, Scotty got the second to largest burger they offered.  Fat Burger was the last thing we did.  We noticed on google maps that the traffic was beginning to get bad.  It was time to do the final leg of the trip to go home.  The 101 was a mess.  We decided to cut over to the 5 via the 126 to get home.  That possibly saved us over an hour of our trip.  We got home after dark.  It was around 6:30 to 7 pm.  Jane was not interested in going home yet.  We decided to chill at Scotty's and make survival bracelets.  We had bought paracord and supplies the day before hoping to do them on the camping trip.  We would of had the chance if we got to Pismo earlier in the day.  Scotty ended up turning on the Play Station and play Grand Theft Auto V.  We took turns playing.  He ended up not doing what he needed to do.  Jane and I were a little bit mad, because that could of meant a few extra hours we could of used to stay out in the Pismo region, but it is what it is.  It was a quick but much needed trip.  Wish it was longer.  We would have probably done a hiking thing or something if we had one more night.  Hopefully, in the summer, we can do a longer version of this.
